I love teaching. It makes a genuine difference to people's lives, and those same people push me to be a better practitioner. For a year and a half I worked as a user experience and visual design instructor at General Assembly, delivering 7 instances of their intensive 10 week “User Experience Design Immersive” course to a total of 92 students. Since completing the course, my students have gone on to work as user experience designers for companies and agencies such as IBM, Lloyds, Huddle, Friday, Brilliant Basics, and Red Badger.
Nothing helps you to understand and articulate a subject better than having to present it to a critical audience! I’ve presented many topics related to user experience design, including visual design, interaction design, prototyping, usability testing, and working with stakeholders.

Learning is far more effective through practical application. I’ve facilitated workshops for training courses and marketing events on a wide range of research and design methods. I’ve also led interactive demos of design and prototyping software such as Omnigraffle, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, InVision, and Marvel.

In addition to delivering existing materials, I contributed to the structure and development of General Assembly's User Experience Design Immersive course curriculum. The lectures, exercises, workshops, and projects I developed have been delivered in 14 cities around the globe.

“Steve is a rare combination of talents - not only is he an accomplished UX designer, he is also a world-class visual designer, and a brilliant educator. He is opinionated, direct, and persuasive - capable of holding strong opinions lightly, and always happy to be proven wrong by the evidence or the data. He has a deep knowledge of design, psychology and behaviour, but remains charming and down-to-earth - always ready to reach a mutual understanding with anyone from a CEO to a design student.”
Bill Tribble, Digital Product Designer at Toptal and General Assembly Graduate
